TAFISA is proud to announce that the “1st TAFISA Europe Sport for All Games” will be hosted by the city of Leeuwarden, The Netherlands in 2018. The one week event will be part of the city’s one year program as one of the two selected as European Capital of Culture - a privilege that Leeuwarden in 2018 shares with La Valetta, Malta. Leeuwarden won against its Dutch competitors Eindhoven and Maastricht.
Leeuwarden, the capital of the Frysland province in northern Netherlands, is well qualified to organize the TAFISA Games for many reasons. The region is recognized as a center of Traditional Games and Sports in the Netherlands with Fierljeppen (pictured above) as a number one Dutch traditional sport. TAFISA is expecting the majority of European countries and beyond to come to Leeuwarden with at least one traditional sport. Based on its concept of the “Green Games”, Leeuwarden will be well prepared to stage this mega event. To learn more about the city, please visit www.leeuwarden.nl
In particular, TAFISA thanks board member Wim Florijn and Leeuwarden representative Anne Jochum de Vries for their hard work to make this event possible. The contract between Leeuwarden and TAFISA was signed on 1st September 2013.
