Las 129 obreras textiles perdieron la vida en un incendio al momento de manifestarse contra la extensa jornada laboral, bajos salarios y las inhumanas condiciones de trabajo existentes para la época.
Ahora 168 años después de esa huelga de aquellas valientes trabajadoras, la lucha de las mujeres en todo el mundo sigue en pie para contrarrestar la continua y reprochable violación a los derechos humanos de mujeres y niñas.
Por eso la Organización de las Naciones Unidas (ONU), entidad que nos ha legado esta celebración nos pide unirnos este 8 de marzo para juntos resaltar en su máxima expresión el Día Internacional de la Mujer bajo el lema:“Para TODAS las mujeres y niñas: Derechos. Igualdad. Empoderamiento”.

En el ámbito nacional y trascendiendo a nivel mundial tenemos inmejorables mujeres que sirven de enseña como es el caso de nuestra Marileidy Paulino quien es campeona olímpica de los 400 metros planos en la Olimpiada de Paris 2024
Como Confederación Dominicana de Judo recordamos en esta celebración a nuestra Juana MorbanPeguero quien tuvo su vida dedicada al deporte como atleta, entrenadora, arbitro y directiva adornándole las prendas de buena hija, esposa y madre a la vez que resaltaba en su compañerismo, dedicación y honestidad a toda prueba
En fin, los afiliados a la Condojudo han realizado diferentes y variadas actividades en todo el territorio nacional en la celebración de este Día Internacional de la Mujer 2025.

International Women's Day
Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.-It was on March 8, 1857 when 129 textile workers from the Cotton factory in New York died, which led the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN) in 1977 to establish the date of that fateful date as International Women's Day.
The 129 textile workers lost their lives in a fire when they were protesting against the long work day, low wages and inhuman working conditions that existed at the time.
Now 168 years after that strike of those brave workers, the struggle of women around the world continues to counteract the continuous and reprehensible violation of the human rights of women and girls.
That is why the United Nations Organization (UN), the entity that has bequeathed us this celebration, asks us to join together on March 8 to highlight International Women's Day in its maximum expression under the motto: "For ALL women and girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment."
The world community has many women who stand out with their sporting achievements and social action, shining not only on the sports scene but also in different and varied fields. At the national level and transcending at a global level we have unbeatable women who serve as an example, such as our Marileidy Paulino who is the Olympic champion of the 400 meters flat at the Paris 2024 Olympics
As the Dominican Judo Confederation we remember in this celebration our Juana Morban Peguero who had her life dedicated to sport as an athlete, coach, referee and director adorning her clothes as a good daughter, wife and mother while standing out in her camaraderie, dedication and honesty to all tests
In short, the members of Condojudo have carried out different and varied activities throughout the national territory in celebration of this International Women's Day 2025.
