Kenshiro Abbe Cup 2017
The 2017 Kenshiro Abbe Cup took place on Sunday 21st May. In its second year, the event was opened to international judoka, and as an international event, a Belgian team took on that opportunity, and made their way to London to take part, and compete against British judoka in the competition. Further to this, various teams from London (3), Hertfordshire, Huntingdon, Worthing and Kent from all organisations travelled to take part in this fast growing tournament.
The day consisted of strong, upright judo which greatly resembled the teachings of Abbe and his principles of Kyshindo. Since the last event, we have not only see participation grow, but a true leap in the standard of judo on display. This was evident, as much clean, ippon judo was demonstrated by the competitors. Equally, the ne-waza was on par with the tachi-waza, with much circular, transitional groundwork being executed by each and every judoka. We would also like to add that female participation has grown greatly, with a ladies open category also being created after the main contests!
JFAUK would like to thank all the clubs who brought their judoka, as well as all competitors who put on a great show of judo. A special thank you goes to JudoYes Bilzen who brought their team of Belgian judoka to the event, and we look forward to more integration with them in the future. Further to this, we would like to thank all officials and referees who ensured the smooth running of the event.
A special congratulations goes to Dan Chiddy for being awarded his 1st Dan, as well as Adam Brown who was awarded his 2nd Kyu following their ongoing successes at JFAUK events over the past year.
Well done to all and we are certainly looking forward to the next event!
